The scholarship is part of the Artists exchange program of the Cultural Office of Düsseldorf. It is an Artists in Residency guest studio in Ein Hod near Haifa, Israel.

During a 5-week residency in the summer of 2013 the series “round” was created.
It consists of nine round canvas. With my wife and two young daughters I travelled Israel and found a land tortured by fires and disputes for thousands of years. The arc stretches from one's own German legacy, through memories of a Catholic childhood in the Rhineland, to the walls of the West Bank. In reality, the journey to Jerusalem turns out to be child's play; the rental car glides gracefully through the checkpoint in Bethlehem. The family eats falafel and wonders whether it's an Arab or Jewish dish. Jets zip overhead, preparing for a fatal Syrian military strike. My images raise questions about the structures and origins of conflicts and relate them to childlike, utopian or scientific perspectives.
