During the pandemic I lived in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia with my family.
It was a hard time of isolation but still I felt in love with the country of Malaysia.
The time of artistic stillness I nonetheless took a series of photographs catching impressions of that special time.
The following text was written after a trip to England. The pandemic had only ended some months before.
rendang
rendang is a meat based dish
from the opposite isle of sumātra
slow cooked in coconut milk
stirring, fiery dance
rendang is a poets book
I stumble across it’s coloured cover
in a vivid store of books
namely in a town of kent
drizzle and breeze on a mighty barge
crossing the straight
of dover
to the opposite
isle in a sec
a cross it was red with a warning
taped on seats that mustn’t be taken
by guests of mamaks who were not there
at the deserted roads of kl
haze is the name of the the evil
blown in from the isle of sumātra
trees have been cut by thousands
suffocating the lungs of malay
haze is the name of the evil
blown in from the isle of sumātra
but not in those days
clear sky on the empty streets of kl
crossing the channel at ease
short trip from the country of france
quick crazy idea the voyage has been
fulfilled just a night after that
rendang is a meat based dish
from the opposite isle of sumātra
cooked slow till the flesh will turn dry
and pieces will fall apart
crossing the straight of malacca
was part of an unperformed dream
in those days of faces kept secret
the passage was locked, hermetic’lly sealed
rendang is a meat based dish
from the opposite isle of sumātra
flesh it is cooked
till bits fall apart by dance
